Do you have a word for the year? This year I struggled on what my word would be. I had a list of words I was thinking about but none of them felt right. Even as I type this, the word that keeps coming to me is one that I am still resisting but know it’s the right one. After I share my word, you’ll see the irony. My word for the year is….
As I thought more about my word, I realized that my resistance was more out of fear. My resistance was because surrender pulls me out of what I feel is my comfort zone. It means I have to release my control and be open to allow things to flow to me as they are suppose to. This years word is one that is all about internal growth for me and that’s going to be a challenge this year but a good challenge that I’m excited about.
Surrender is knowing that no matter the twist and turns this year may take, it’s all working out for my good.
If you’re wondering how I’m looking at my word for 2019 in correlation to my goals, it’s all about trust and being open. Surrender to me doesn’t mean letting go of all the things I’d like to accomplish and live on a whim, but to be open to divine guidance. Releasing expectations of how I would like things to go and allowing my goals to happen however they are suppose to. Surrender is knowing that I’ll reach my goals, but the path I take may lead me to lessons and experiences that make getting to the goal even more worthwhile.
As I look back on the words I’ve had over the years each one was fitting to where I was in my life. Those words may not have been as challenging as my word this year, but still fit for that year. While surrender will require a lot of intentional work on my part, I’m excited to see what this year holds and how my word will flow throughout this year.
Whether you have a word, a theme, a quote, scripture or mantra for the year, I hope that it inspires you and that you accomplish the dreams and goals you would like to reach this year.
But if you don’t have a word or if you’re still figuring out your goals keep going. Don’t rush. I know so much talk on these inter webs would have you think if you’re not ready to crush your goals January 1st your failing. I want to let you know, you’re not. Move at your own pace. Don’t rush yourself. Take the time you need to identify the goals you want to reach this year. This isn’t a race. The prize at the end isn’t really the accomplishment of reaching to goal. That’s great, but the lessons you learn, the new perspectives you gain, and more than anything what you discover about yourself is the true prize and no matter how 2019 goes, that’s the real accomplishment.
Do you have a word, mantra, quote or theme for your year? I’d love to know what it is so leave me a comment and let me know!
