Behind the Design of the Everyday Joy Journal
In this blog post, I wanted to go behind the design of the Everyday Joy Journal to share all the good things inside this journal and why I love it so much. So let’s get started.
When it comes to Joy, it’s something I think we’re all chasing. Especially now. But what I am learning is we don’t have to chase joy. It’s really all around us. Joy can be found in the small moments of our daily life. It can also be found in those big milestone too. The idea behind this journal was to capture daily moments of joy and to also show ways to cultivate more joy in our lives.
Here are some of the basic features of the journal:
- This Journal has a hard cover
- Inside you will find a rainbow of color. Just one more way to add more joy.
- Guided journal pages designed to capture all the moments and memories from each day
- There are journal entries for about 100 days
There is no right or wrong way to use this journal. Whether you use it daily or weekly, do whatever works best for you.
Favorite Journal Features
INSIDE PAGES
The pages are set up to start with a page I call the “kick off”. It’s a page that would start off the week if you’re using this journal everyday. Each “kick off” page is different and is designed to be an interactive way to discover joy with different prompts for you to answer.
After the kick off pages there are the daily pages that have three prompted sections for you to answer. You can write on every line or skip a section. That is totally up to you.
The last page that closes out the week, it you are using this journal daily, is a prompt page. This section is designed to have you go a little deeper and answer question about yourself, a memory, people and places that brought you joy. You can use every single line of this space or just write a few sentences, it’s totally up to you.
The reason I set up the inside pages like this is I noticed in a lot of guided journals, the pages were the same everyday. While what you write each day will be different, it’s nice to have variety. Just like this journal is about joy I wanted this to be a journal you enjoyed using. I just didn’t think a bunch of pages that were the same would do that.
JOYFUL TIPS
This is my favorite part of the journal. Throughout this journal, there tips that are designed to help you cultivate more joy. A lot of these tips correlate with the journal prompts. The idea behind these tips is give you a way to spread a little joy beyond these journal pages.
BONUS SECTION
This section was created for you to reflect on what you’ve discovered while using this journal plus more journal prompts and tips for you to keep journaling.
I love this journal. I started using a sample shortly after quarantine began. I noticed that this journal helped me shift my focus from everything I was anxious about and helped me see even in all the uncertainty, joy can still be found. I have now started to see moments, conversations and other things from my day that I want to write down in this journal to remember.
My hope as I created this journal is that you would be excited to use it to capture all the good and joyful things happening in your life and that when you looked back at it years later, you can see all the joy-filled things that were happened and it makes you smile.
