We’re a couple weeks in to 2019 and while I’ve been taking my time with goal setting one goal that doesn’t change each year is prioritizing my self care. Today’s Self Care tip is all about deciding what you’re going to say yes to in 2019 and what are you saying no to this year.
This may not seem like it relates to self care but it does. Setting the tone for the year of people, experiences, and things we want more of and those things we want to let go of because it simply no longer serves us, is good for our overall wellness.
Step #1
Get out a sheet of paper and on one side write down all the things you want to say YES to this year. This list can include new habits, relationships, projects, hobbies, personal development whatever you feel you want to see in your life this year write it down.
Step #2
Now, on the other side of this paper write down all the things you are saying NO to. List out any habits you want to let go of, things that didn’t work for you this year. Relationships that aren’t working. Go through your social media accounts and unfollow accounts that don’t make you feel great. Maybe you want to make a career change or you just want to say no to fear or comparison. Whatever it is, write it down. When we let go of things that don’t serve us, we’re opening ourselves up to more that does.
Step #3
Review your list. Are there intentional habits you can start. Books you want to read to learn more about a topic or goals you can make for the year? Use this list to start creating some ways to make changes in your life in small and intentional ways. The only Wayne see more of what we want is to take the steps to make it happen.
Some additional tips as you are reviewing your list:
- Be honest with yourself. Know where you will struggle to make changes and start small.
- Give yourself plenty of grace. Change doesn’t happen overnight.
- Take your time. You don’t have to make changes today. Maybe implement one new thing each month. Treat this like a marathon and not a sprint. Move at your own pace
The beginning of the year is a great time to look at everything in our lives and see what’s working and what’s not and creating a “Yes/No” list is a great way to start that process of making intentional changes for the year.
What are you saying yes to? What are you saying no to? I’d love to know leave me a comment and let me know one thing on your list.
